From the U.S. Army to veterans' services to the football field — Newt McCutcheon has spent a lifetime serving Nicholas County and West Virginia. Now he's ready to take that fight to the 49th District.

Newt McCutcheon is a proven leader and dedicated public servant committed to delivering strong, reliable leadership for West Virginia’s 49th District.
A lifelong West Virginian, Newt has spent decades serving his community and country. He is a retired United States Army officer who rose through the enlisted ranks to commissioned leadership, with experience in infantry, special operations, and key roles in training, recruiting, and military education. Following his medical retirement, he continued shaping future leaders through Army ROTC and college admissions at Glenville State College.
Newt’s commitment to service extends beyond the military. As a Veterans Affairs Officer in Summersville, he fought for veterans and their families across five counties, ensuring they received the benefits they earned. In his local community, he trains Nicholas County High School football players, fostering teamwork, discipline, and leadership in the next generation.
He is a devoted husband of 34 years to his wife, Kathy, and a proud father of two—one a small business owner, the other serving in the United States Air Force. A graduate of Nicholas County High School and Fairmont State College, Newt built his career on hard work, discipline, and dedication to his community.
